Meet Our Farmers Series (Part I)

Welcome to the first post of our “Meet Our Farmers” series! At least once a month, we are going to introduce you to one of our farmers. We think it’s important to know where you’re getting your food and who is harvesting it. Plus, the farmers are great people and it’s fun to learn more about the people behind the scenes.

So, without further ado, we’d like to introduce you to Dave from Red Earth Organics!

  1. When did you establish your farm? – 2006
  1. Where is your farm located? – Zebulon, GA
  1. Does your farm specialize in any specific produce or livestock?

Carrots, Strawberries, Blueberries, Tomatoes, amazing seasonal greens, and the finest heritage breed pork you will find anywhere.

  1. Why did you decide to start farming?

It started as a hobby garden in 2002 and found that it rekindled fond feelings and memories from my youth working at a neighborhood greenhouse and alongside my Father and Grandfather in our families garden. Growing frustrated with corporate greed as well as gross mistreatment at the hands of the same fueled my desire for self-employment. From these two things the farm was born.

  1. What is the coolest/craziest thing that has happened to you on the farm?

Every day on the farm is cool, certainly not easy or even necessarily fun, but always a new challenge to be overcome! Craziest would be a homicidal mama cow who tried to trample me three times!

  1. Why did you decide to partner with Local Roots?

Always looking for new and different opportunities, and this seemed like a great way to offer our life changing products to a new client base.

  1. How can people learn more about your farm? Or, even better, at Morningside Farmers market or Marietta Square Farmers market every Saturday 52 weeks a year. Converse and learn directly from us there, when we aren’t swamped with happy customers 🙂
